Class Journal Entry—In the JC
For October 11, 2007
We started out the day in Old Testament. Our main topic for the day was about King Solomon. We discussed the Wisdom of Solomon, and used the example of Solomon judging between the two harlots in deducing the true mother of the child they were arguing over. We also talked about the temple Solomon built, and the ways in which it was similar to and different from the original Tabernacle. Solomon’s temple was twice the dimension and four times the size of the Tabernacle. Also, the number of objects inside the temple was increased in comparison to the tabernacle.
Our next class was MNE 349. We had our midterm in this class today. Most of us were very worried about this first midterm because of how much material it covered and the unknown of the manner in which he would test us. Taking and correcting the midterm took up all of our class time. We left the class in a state of relief, glad our first midterm was completed.
For those students in Arabic, MNE 349 was the last class of the day. A group of nineteen went to Tel Aviv for the rest of the day to celebrate Kendra’s birthday. They played on the beach for the majority of the day, playing games and managing to bury twelve people in the sand. They also went to dinner and apparently had some amazing gelato while they were there. Those Arabic students who did not go to Tel Aviv went into the city or stayed in the center and watched movies.
Those of us in Hebrew had double classes today. The classes were split by lunch in between. We began the day learning new expressions such as Todah, meaning “thank you”, and Boker Tov, meaning “good morning. We also learned new block letters from the Hebrew alphabet, along with how to write them in script. Much of the class was spent practicing writing those script letters and using the letters and vowels we had learned to sound out words. We also learned a new Hebrew song that we all sang together at the end of class.
Wanting to take a break from studying, many of us split in to groups to watch various movies and just relax before dinner. After dinner, groups played volleyball and soccer, as well as completing reading assignments for the next day. Overall, it was a very enjoyable day, with much learned and much fun experienced.
