This fine Sunday morning included Old Testament for all and Hebrew for some. After classes and lunch some chose to venture out of the center. Having spent the previous day contemplating the beauty of the tiles on my bathroom wall (their smooth white surfaces and glossy sheen… how cool they felt against my skin…) I decided it would be best to stay in the Center and spend the day studying and did not go out. Afternoon studying fell through in favor of much needed napping. After waking up feeling quite refreshed, I again tried my hand at studying. This time studying fell through in favor of a phone call home. (Fortunately, after dinner I was able to focus and put a good chunk into my reading for both Old Testament and Modern Near East 349.)
One group visited the Tower of David Museum. Unable to track any of them down for a riveting interview, let us assume they had an educational, enriching, and entertaining time. They may have visited the permanent exhibition, which shows Israel's 3000 some years of history. Or they very well could have visited the temporary "Soundscapes" exhibition. We will assume, whatever they did, they left the museum better, smarter people than when they arrived.
Others, including my roommate Lynne, went shopping. She visited Aladdin's and Omar's. At Omar's she purchased an olivewood Nativity for herself, a single figurine nativity for brother, camel pins, and ornaments. She had her purchases shipped home so I did not have the opportunity to see them. Omar insisted she pay only after her things arrived safely at her home. Lynne reports that in addition to her purchases, Rachel Briggs bought two nativities.
Some students attended the classical piano concert in the auditorium at 8:00pm. In the words of Amy Hill, "The concert was amazing!" Students studying in the bomb shelter near the forum reported being able to hear snatches of the concert through the ceiling. From what they heard, they agreed that it was, in fact, amazing.
So what proved to be a rather uneventful, lazy, and relatively unproductive day for me turned out to be somewhat more interesting for everyone else. (Thank Heaven. If it hadn't been I would have had absolutely nothing to write about…)
