November 25th 2007 Stefi Faust
Today we loaded the buses for an early departure to Galilee. Our first stop on the calendar was at Hazor, the Canaanite high place. Brother Ludlow told us this is one of the world historic site and an active archeological excavation site.
Next we headed to beautiful Tel Dan. We enjoyed our nature hike, the wading pool, the instruction at the Canaanite altar and lunch. Tel Dan was so lush, green, and peaceful. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon in nature.
After Tel Dan, we stopped at Caesarea Philipi. We walked around the ancient ruins and saw places of sacrifices. Then we toured Nimrod’s Castle which included a greatly preserved beautiful ancient fortress. We all loved climbing around, scaling the mountain side and the gorgeous view of the green valley below us.
We then finally made it to our beloved Ein Gev. After dropping our bags off, many students headed straight for the beach. We then soaked up our first great night at the Sea of Galilee and prepared for a fun week ahead of us.
My favorite scripture in all of the Gospels is Mark 16:6, “And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him”. I love this scripture because it tells us not to be afraid and also testifies of Christ’s crucifixion. It lays out his life’s mission very simply. In this verse we are told he came to earth and received a body by the statement “where they laid him.” My favorite part is the last phrase of “He is not here for He is risen.” That statement gives me such hope. Christ conquered death so I might gain eternal life. He was raised on the third day. This life was not the end for Christ just as it is not the end for me. This scripture is very short and simple but teaches beautiful eternal truths.
